Day 1 Kathmandu - Nepalgunj
The adventure begins with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj in the lowlands of the Terai in southern Nepal. The border with India is only a short 10 km and the town also has an Indian atmosphere. A contrast to the peace and the high peaks that you will experience in the coming week. If you are already in Nepal, for example, and has visited the Bardia National Park, it is possible to start the journey from here.
Day 2 Nepalgunj - Juphal (2475 m), trek to Chhepka (2838 m)
An early morning flight takes you in about 40-45 minutes to the airport, or rather the landing strip of the village Juphal. A spectacular flight with amazing views of the Himalayas.
From the airport you walk past fields where wheat and vegetables are grown to the Thuli Beri river. After you crossed the 99-meter-long suspension bridge you are in the largest national park in Nepal; the Shey Phoksundo NP. This 3500 km2 area received the status national park in 1985 to protect the unique nature and Tibetan flora and fauna.

Initially you will follow the fierce flowing Suli Khola river which source lies in the final destination of this journey the Phoksundo Lake. You walk through a hilly landscape, sometimes high above the river, and soon you will see the river flowing right beneath you. At about 2228 m we stop in the village of Kagbeni for lunch.
After lunch we cross the next suspension bridge and thus the Phoksundo river. Slightly rising above you, you'll pass a village Jyala (2331 m), with a predominant Buddhist population.

Altough you keep climbing, sometimes you'll come close to the river. It means that the river flows fast and steep. The wooded area consists mainly of various types of spruce, juniper and cypress. You also see walnut trees and various species of bamboo.

Near Chhepka town, surrounded by fields of barley and wheat, we spend the night in one of the three small guesthouses. There is also a possibility to camp there.
Day 3 Chhupka, walk to Chunuwar (3130 m)
After breakfast this morning you walk some time in the forest, before passing through a narrow gorge, which was carved by the river Phoksundo. On either side of the river you will see steep cliffs. The wooden suspension bridges take you o the right side of the river. Chances are that you will meet local people with donkeys or dzopas "(a cross between a yak and a cow) on the way, the mules are often loaded with merchandise. About 4 hours to reach the lunch spot Ryachi, at 2935 m.

Continue after lunch the ascending path, and several times again cross the river. About 2.5 to 3 hours after Ryachi you will reach a 'big' boarding school, where children receive education in the remote area. Ahead lies Chunuwar, but first you will pass the Amchi little hospital. An Amchi is a Tibetan doctor who specializes in traditionel Tibetan medicine. He is a lama (head monk). The Dolpa still have more confidence in their traditional medicine than modern Western medicines. Tibetan medicine has thousands years of history and a high reputation. You may visit the hospital.

You stay next to the hospital in a small guesthouse, with also camping facilities.
Day 4 Chunuwar - Ringmo/Phoksundo lake (3608 m)
You leave again early in the morning and start in the forest to walk on a dirt road, a more desert-like area, overgrown with small bushes. Completely different than you haave seen the previous days.
It is a steep climb of about 2 hours to a viewpoint from where you can see the highest waterfall in Nepal. At 3683 m, the Phoksundo / Suligad waterfall with 167 m of highest of its kind.

The pass, at 3727 m, you will reach some 10 minutes later. Here you have a first look at the beautiful emerald Phoksundo Lake. After this you descend to the Ringma town, situated on the lake. Behind Ringmo you see the high snowy peaks of the Himalayas as the Norbung Kang (6085 m) and the Tokal Kang (6294 m). Overnight of course on the shores of the lake.

You have the afternoon and the next morning to explore the village and the beautiful surroundings. In the clear no fish lake water life. During the day, especially in the evening (and sunrise) change the colors of the lake.
Day 5 Ringmo/Phoksundo Lake - Chunuwar (3130 m)
Ringmo is a pleasant village. The locals follow the Bonpo religion here. This is related to Buddhism but much older and has more animistic aspects. There are many similarities between them, to difference is sometimes difficult to see. The main difference is that you do not walk clockwise around to the Bonpo shrines (such mani walls and chortens), but it passes counterclockwise. The religion was established about 18 000 years ago by Buddha Tonpa Shenrab Miwo. Dolpa was the 7th century the center of Bon kingdom. The socalled Zhangzhung kingdom was defeated by the Tibetan kings.

The women wear dark or checkered dresses with colorful aprons, made from the wool of yak. Some men carry their  traditional long coats, with a loose sleeve. There is a chance that you will see women working at the loom. As you continue the morning at the lake you can visit a Bonpo monastery and walk a bit of the 'Devils pull. The winning film Himalayas (Caravan) by Eric Valli is fantastic display of Dolpa life and is filmed here. After lunch, you will walk the same path back towards Chunuwar and Amchi hospital
Day 6 Chunuwar - Sangta/Kageni (2228 m)
You walk after Chunuwar again through the woods and descend to Ryachi and continue to Kagbeni. It's not just descend, occasionally you have to climb again, but gradually you will descend. You will notice that the weather is warmer and the vegetation changes again. The bamboo comes back and you see walnut trees.
Day 7 Kageni - Liku/Juphal (2475 m)
Today you walk back to the main route of the Great Himalaya Trek and will rest in the final place Juphal. The flights will generally only in the morning hours, as the weather than the best
Day 8 Juphal - Nepalgunj - Kathmandu
You will fly back to Kathmandu. Not directly but again via Nepalgunj.
